A coat cut to the floor in one clean line, double-breasted with two columns of buttons and a broad notched lapel.

The coat is long and straight through the body, with a double-breasted front fastened by two columns of dark buttons, notched lapels and plain sleeves. It is cut to just above the ankle, so it clears the hem of wide trousers or a slim skirt without bulk. Worn buttoned it is severe and upright; worn open it hangs in a straight line from the shoulders.
